Canada’s foodservice industry remains in a very strong position, with consistent YoY growth each month for 2019, and Restaurants Canada projecting an average 4.6% growth in the last half of the year due to stronger than expected disposable income growth. A major industry trend bolsters this outlook, as a recent survey regarding high growth 3rd party delivery services showed 79% of restaurants responding found them profitable, and 24% said they were very profitable.

The picture for the hotel industry is more complex. Occupancy is down for the year but ADR and RevPAR are both up. Fortunately, analysts feel the Occupancy challenge stems from increased supply, and that supply should result in increased ADR and RevPAR on an ongoing basis as it raises the rate ceiling for the country. There are also strong positive trends in international travel, with 2019 travel from the US up 6.3% YoY, and from Mexico up 33.3%, from India up 27.9% and from the UK up 22.3%.
