Retail Council of Canada Cannabis Forum May 13 – join us there!
From a standing start, cannabis retail has overcome a series of unique challenges to become Canada’s fastest growing retail sector. The question is, what’s next?
From $156M in retail sales in 2018 through $1.2B in sales in 2019 to $2.6B in sales in 2020, the rate of growth has been astonishing. To service that demand, thousands of people have been hired, hundreds of stores have been built, dozens of brands established, and chains created that span the country. Even during the pandemic, cannabis retail sales grew 118%, and predictions are for significant growth still to come.
While managing that incredible growth along with the unique issues involved in migrating a product from the unlicensed to the licensed market, cannabis retailers still face the same issues as every retailer. From retail execution – especially in the time of COVID - through adding stores, to understanding and connecting with consumers and other stakeholders, cannabis retailers still grapple with mainstream retail challenges.
