The Retail Space Planner will be responsible for the development, execution, and ongoing optimization of planograms and merchandising layouts across multiple retail locations. This individual will collaborate closely with merchandising, operations, marketing, and category teams to ensure retail space is being utilized effectively while supporting evolving business objectives and customer shopping behaviors. The ideal candidate combines strong analytical capability with a practical understanding of retail operations and merchandising execution. They are highly organized, systems-oriented, and comfortable working within a fast-paced retail environment where priorities can evolve quickly.
Description
- Develop and maintain impactful, customer-focused planograms and merchandising layouts
- Build planograms using space planning software, ensuring consistency with merchandising standards and timelines
- Analyze product categories, customer flow, and store performance data to support merchandising decisions
- Support category reviews through reporting, documentation, and merchandising insights
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure timely implementation of merchandising initiatives
- Monitor the effectiveness of planogram changes and identify opportunities for optimization and improved performance
- Ensure merchandising programs support operational efficiency, inventory flow, and new product launches
- Assist with shelving adjustments, fixture planning, and retail space allocation strategies
- Maintain accurate reporting and ensure adherence to merchandising calendars and project timelines
- Participate in store audits and execution reviews to ensure consistency and compliance across locations
- Contribute to the ongoing evolution of merchandising processes and best practices
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of experience in retail space planning, merchandising, visual presentation, or store planning
- Experience working with space planning software such as JDA/Space Planning or similar platforms
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and translate insights into actionable merchandising strategies
- Solid understanding of retail operations, category management, and merchandising principles
- Knowledge of customer journey mapping, store flow, and traffic pattern analysis
- Experience working collaboratively across merchandising, marketing, and operational teams
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
- Familiarity with omnichannel retail environments or experiential retail concepts is considered an asset
