Hotels remain up, Foodservice remains challenged

Building the growth trend for Canada’s hotel industry, Costar reported that May saw the highest YoY increases since 2024 in ADR (+9.5%) and RevPAR (+10.5%). Combined with a +.09% increase in Occupancy, that gives Canada 5 months in a row of growth in every major KPI.

In foodservice, Statistics Canada reported a higher rate of growth YoY in April than March (4.9% vs 3.6%) , with special foodservice leading at 9.4%, full service restaurants up 6.1%, and limited service eating places up 3.3%. Drinking places decreased by 1.8%. However, along with the challenges operators are facing with increased costs, Restaurants Canada has reported that global uncertainty and budgetary pressures continue to limit consumer spending on dining out. The single bright spot came from social activities and gatherings, cited by 28% of respondents as the reason they purchased from a restaurant more often in March. Overall, Canada’s foodservice environment remains challenging.
